This wonderfully decorative French trumeau dates from the 19th century , circa 1870. The trumeau draws on antiquity for design inspiration depicting a Grecian scene with warriors and reclining female figure. The style is neoclassical , echoing the empire style of the early 19th century. The trumeau would have been part of the boiserie or panelled decoration of a neoclassical room with the mirror enjoying pride of place above the fireplace.
